REthinkthings LTD is a quirky and charismatic approach to questioning everyday objects, their substance and their functionality. Founded and directed by Ilsa Parry, a Liverpool based product designer, creativity consultant, licensor, producer and promoter of innovative and iconic products. REthinkthings aims to offer alternative homeware and giftware to consumers which use materials, manufacturing processes and product functionality in new and exciting ways that are often socially responsible and environmentally aware.

REthintkhings licenses ideas and product prototypes from UK designers and works with manufacturers in both the UK and Asia to make the items accessible. The creative work and products designed by REthinkthings designers have been acknowledged through a series of awards from organisations such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Giftware Association and the Sustainable Furnishing Council. Current designers for the brand include Ilsa herself, Julia Jacob and Stephen Rimmer, both recent graduates in three dimensional design.

The product was designed by Julia Jacob whilst still at University, Julia loves to design items which have scope for commercial production and are simplistic and graphic in form. Ilsa Parry spotted Bauhaus whilst visiting Julias university delivering tutorials to final year students.

Ilsa loved Julias efficient use of materials cutting several products from just one stock sheet of steel and saw scope for powder coating to increase durability and longevity. Ilsa invited Julia to exhibit with her company – 5ml design collective, at Maison et Objet in Paris later that year. Whilst at the show, 5ml exhibited some of the newest and freshest graduate work alongside the work of their own companies to international European buyers. It was at this show that the Bauhaus was spotted by Parisien company Princesse Tam Tam for use as visual merchandise in all 160 stores throughout Europe.

Ilsa set up a deal with Julia to license the product into her realization company “REthinkthings LTD” to allow for quantity production of 2000 units abroad, 600 of which were purchased by Princesse Tam Tam. Julia takes royalty payments for the design based on sales.  Since then the product has gone from strength to strength, produced in four colours and two sizes for general sale, it has been exhibited at Spring Fair international, Pulse London, Tent London and the Liverpool Design Festival with interest from buyers such as John Lewis and Heals.

Currently Bauhaus is sold at various design led boutiques and garden stores throughout the UK and REthinkthings are in discussions with Henrybucks of Melbourne for a quantity purchase for catalogue sale in Australia. Bauhaus was selected by WGSN trend forecasters for inclusion in their 2011 showcase and was also shortlisted for gift of the year 2011.
