Enchanted Parks 2011

Enchanted Parks is an innovative site specific after dark outdoor arts experience. Saltwell Park has been the setting for Enchanted Parks since December 2006 and has grown year on year with audiences.

We are looking to commission in the region of 15 artworks for Enchanted Parks 2011. Artworks will range from visual artworks to multimedia, sound, writing, story-telling, the spoken word, out door performance and live art. Please click links below for further information

The Sunderland Book Project

The Sunderland Book Project kicks off with a fantastic display of hand made printed Artist's Books, at Arts Centre Washington, Tyne & Wear. All the books are connected to the city of Sunderland.. The project is ongoing with future venue dates in the pipeline for 2012. Concept Design Award


iF Concept Design Award 2012; an international competition for up-and-coming talent, is now open for entries. Students and recent graduates from all over the world are invited to submit their innovative, trend-setting ideas and concepts. A jury will recommend how the total prize money of EUR30,000 will be distributed among some of the 100 winners.

Craft Residencies

Sturt Craft Centre invites applications from experienced craft practitioners to the Sturt Artist-in-Residence program. Residencies occur in the disciplines of ceramics, jewellery, textiles, wood, photography and writing. Four to six residencies occur at Sturt each year. The emphasis of the residency program will be to support craftspeople and designer-makers. The Residency program provides time, space and facilities for artists to focus on making and developing new work. There are no formal activities and residents are required to structure their time to best suit their practice. The Sturt Residency program suits those with a high level of initiative, and those who are able to work independently. It is expected that Residents will remain at Sturt for the Residency period.

Neon Workshop

This unique and ambitious neon sculpture course sees Matt Dilling (New York) and Shawna Peterson (Los Angeles) fly in to teach their own styles of neon art, along side neon maker Julia Bickerstaff and artist Richard William Wheater. Invited scientists and astronomers will offer evening presentations relating to neon light and electricity.

Neon Workshops was set up in 2008 with an aim to expose, explore and teach neon as a method of expression and cultural production, as well as hoping to challenge common expectations of the material. Ideally located between Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The Henry Moore Institute and the newly opened Hepworth Wakefield, Neon Workshops is the only arts organisation in Europe and Scandinavia to offer such a facility and neon education programme to the general public.

Craft Potters Association

In 1991 the CPA set up the Craft Pottery Charitable Trust to support educational activities. Trustees include a member of the Crafts Council and former officials and current members of the CPA. Funding for the Charitable Trust comes from donations from the CPA operating Companies and from personal donations, bequests and other fund raising activities organised and supported by members.

The Trust has two main grant schemes; an annual grant scheme in which awards of up to £1,000 in value are made and a £500 bursary scheme for new graduate makers.

The workshops are designed both for people who have no previous knowledge of working with clay as well as for those with some.

Globe Gallery Call Out for Submissions

LifeWorkArt at Newcastle University, in partnership with The Globe Gallery, are planning an exhibition of work by Newcastle University Fine Art Department graduates to open mid-October 2011. The aim is to promote how artists have progressed since graduation. For this reason, we are seeking submissions from artists that graduated at least three years ago (i.e. before 2009).

Globe Gallery Olympiad Project

We are working with Canadian artist Shelley Ouellet to produce a large scale public art installation, created by participants, that will be unveiled when the Olympic torch arrives in the North East.

You are invited to submit an image that represents the place that you live. This is a region wide project to celebrate the arrival of the Olympiad torch in the North East.
