PECHA KUCHA RETURNS 15 MAY
After a great event in December, Pecha Kucha returns to a new venue, the Robert Stephenson Centre, on Sussex street, Newcastle. Pecha Kucha, Japanese for chit-chat, was founded in Tokyo by architect and Newcastle University graduate Mark Dytham. Pecha Kucha nights have taken place all over the world in Berlin, New York, San Francisco, LA, Sydney, Rio and now Newcastle.
The format of the evening is fast paced and involves 12 speakers from design, architecture, art, music and photography talking about 20 slides at 20 seconds for each slide. There is no brief and images can be as obscure or as sane as the speaker chooses, they often range from things that inspire them; a holiday snap, their favourite cartoon, football team or something they can't stand.
This time around we've got speakers from the world of architecture, music, graphics and film, including:
Malcolm Fraser, Malcolm Fraser Architects
Simon Sankarayya, All of Us
Francoise Lamy, Cinefeel
Paul Reed & Ross Millard, Longest Mile Records/Future Heads
(re)design, Sustainable Design Showcase Curators
Tim Bailey, Xsite Architecture
Bob Sanderson, Graphic Designer
Tom Shakespeare, Writer/performer
Andrew Chetty, Producer/curator
John Thackara, Dott 07
Tickets go on sale on the 9th April, priced £6/£8, available at Electrik Sheep, 20 Pink Lane, Newcastle 0191 261 4444, or from the Dott office by e-mailing beckie.darlington@dott07.com
