NEWCASTLE FASHION SHOW
The Northumbria University’s annual catwalk fashion show and textile exhibition will be held at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead, on Tuesday 14 May.
Northumbria
University is renowned for producing great industry talent and
providing edgy, ground-breaking and inspirational designs on the
catwalk. This year is shaping up to be one of their best showcases yet
with an even bigger fashion showcase; and they will once again be part of Newcastle Fashion Week helping to celebrate just how fashionable Newcastle really is.
SURREPTITIOUS NETWORKS
CRUMB are delivering a Professional Development Workshop in collaboration with Pixel Palace on Monday, 20 May 2013, 11am - 6pm at Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle
This workshop is set within the activities of the research unit CRUMB at the University of Sunderland, which has investigated the curating of new media art since 2000 through research, exhibition projects, publishing, networking and professional development for curators.
This artist-led workshop, developed by CRUMB post-doctoral research associate Isabella Streffen and co-chaired by Dr. Sarah Cook of CRUMB, will focus on the “surreptitious networks” operating within artistic practices. The aim is to reveal how artists expose, work with, critique and create inadvertent or hidden networks in the development of their practices.
YIS "NOSEGO' GOODWIN
NoseGo is a Philadelphia-based artist with a passion for illustration and media arts. He mixes fine art with a contemporary style to deliver highly energetic work. His designs feature an assemblage of patterns, vibrant colors and characters derived from his imagination and his surrounding environment.
However it's the energy that attracted Unit 44 to this artist. Largely celebrated in the US he is now beginning to receive world wide notoriety with accolades from the like of Complex and VNA magazine. Look forward to seeing an array of originals, limited edition prints, and permanent features.
As always Unit44 will be providing all the usual refreshments and entertainment.
The lauch event is happening on Friday 10 May at Unit44, Hoults Yard.

SHIPLEY LATES
The Shipley Lates are taking place on the 26 April and the 28 June from 6 - 9pm (free entry, no booking required).
This month the evening events will be exploring one of the oldest types of furniture - the chair. Visitors can take part in a workshop with Newcastle based designer Dan Civico known for his design award winning ChairKIT to make your own stool. Speakers include designer David Irwin, winner of the Homes & Gardens Young Designer Award and Alexander Groves from Studio Swin, who will talk about the Sea Chair project, which makes use of plastic waste collected from the ocean. The Sea Chair is shortlisted as Brit Insurance Design of the Year 2013.
