DESIGN EVENT 08

We are very close to being able to announce our full programme of events and exhibitions that will make up 2008’s festival.

The story so far

Answering to the theme Northern Design we received submissions from local, national and international designers and curators who wanted to take part in DE08, our fourth consecutive festival. 

Our submissions panel included:

Robert Urquhart, Designers are Wankers

Christina Schmidt, Skandium

Trevor Duncan, Northumbria University

Alistair Robinson, Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art

Andrew Guest, Northern Architecture

Karen Stone, Design Event

They looked at all submissions individually and came up with a core programme which Design Event commissioned.

We have been scouring the region for venues in which to place the exhibitions and have just about finalised where all the exhibitions will be housed.

We have amongst others, a sustainable lighting exhibition, a Scandinavian illustration exhibition, a fashion show, an alternative street tour of Sunderland and the Design Event Mart – a selling exhibition showcasing some of the region’s best design talent which will take place over one weekend of the festival.

We will also be hosting a talks series in association with Newcastle College with three exciting speakers, taking place at DanceCity, Newcastle.
