16 July 2010 - Pecha Kucha Night Newcastle #4
Our fourth instalment of PechaKucha Night Newcastle was well attended and really diverse with presentations spanning how to set up a science lab anywhere you like, inspirational artwork in dust, a family history of illegal cock fighting and there was even a mankini sported on-stage by one brave and crazy individual!
Richard Liddle, was not only compere for the night, but he also kicked off proceedings with a quick fire look at products that Cohda, punk rock ECO design company, have developed. Peter McGlynn shared his life long love of drawing (and drawing the Sex Pistols in particular) with the audience and we were all invited to join in and use both sides of our brain to recreate an image.
Tom Schofield showed us some of his beautiful images, Joanna Feeley, shared her world of trend predicting and Peter Sharpe, showed us some amazing images of beautiful landscapes throughout the world, and a green shed (it too, was lovely).
Sarah Raffel shared the story of how she came to be a jewellery designer and set up her boutique Brazen Studios and Dan Civico the most active and hilarious presentation of the night complete with props of several wigs, masks, hats and a mankini shared the inspiration behind his work.
Catherine Bertola showed us some pieces of her work and told us where she draws her inspiration from and Richard Kirk was an eye opener for most of the audience with his presentation on how he has devised a method of printing light onto objects. And to bring the night to an end, Jeff Sarmiento took us through a brief family history and onto some of the glass projects he’s been working on recently. A good time was had by all and Design Event would like to thank the speakers, the audience and Live Theatre for a great night!
The next Pecha Kucha Newcastle night will take place during the Design Event North East festival 22-31 October, date, time and venue to be announced. We do have most of the speakers booked but if you would like to present, send us an email!
