westergaard designs offers a unique collection of products lovingly created by bold, young designer Polly Westergaard. The designs are heavily influenced by Polly’s heritage, a synthesis of her Danish ancestry and her British roots. This fusion of cultural perspectives results in chic, innovative pieces, designed for longevity whilst retaining a fresh take on contemporary living.
Animalask: the latest collection designed for children by westergaard designs. This includes a ‘cuckoo-clock-with-a twist’, individual animal inspired coat hooks, a coat rack, height chart and a beautifully crafted rocking horse; products which engage the imagination of both adults and children alike. The Animalask collection utilises the bold outlines of different animals to create magical, playful and educational products, which are both elegant and compelling for kids and grown-ups who are in touch with their ‘inner child’.
Rejse: westergaard designs has catered for adults too with this collection of beautiful products for the home. The range takes its inspiration from the power and elegance of the Stag and includes an imposing mirror fashioned in the image of a stag’s head, a detail, which is developed in the stag pendulum clock to stunning effect. The Rejse range includes a selection of crockery which continues to play with the stag imagery as well as horse-inspired designs on mugs, plates and espresso cups.
Klasse: This range of beautifully crafted furniture plays with the concept of moulding a contemporary twist to classic furniture pieces. The range features a wing-back lounge and dining chair, which take inspiration from the traditional wing-back design, but with an exaggerated form. The Klasse ‘forgive’ sideboard the newest edition to westergaard designs is a delightful, elegant piece, with an edge. Made from formica, it has a retro feel although the design draws heavily from 18th century influences. Also keep your eyes peeled for the Klasse lamp to be launched at Tent London.
Polly was born in South East London, leaving the capital to study Three Dimensional Design in the North East at Northumbria University. She has remained in Newcastle and is now part of a thriving contemporary design community.
Forgive side board
We, at westergaard designs are delighted to announce the arrival of a product, which has been in the pipeline for a while. The Forgive sideboard has finally become more than just pen on paper, evolving into a beautiful piece of furniture. The ‘forgive’ sideboard the newest edition to westergaard designs is a delightful, elegant piece, with an edge. Made from formica, it has a retro feel although the design draws heavily from 18th century influences. Although the sideboard features appear as a sketch drawn on the surface of the product, the design is deceptively fully functional and offers a highly practical product. The hard wearing formica finish makes this a truly family friendly piece, and can be personalized with a vast selection of gorgeous colour finishes This quirky piece is sophisticated, yet fun; exploring traditional design principles, with a contemporary and engaging twist. All of these attributes make this sideboard a truly unique piece.
“Y I” range
The Y I range started of as a collaborative project with local designer Maggie Walker as part of the “BykerWare” range. This project explored ways of honoring Newcastle’s heritage. I have since developed this collection, exploring the use of “Geordie” lingo, and celebrating the national recognition of local district Byker from the popular kids TV show “Byker Grove”. The pictograms sit perfectly on the vessel for one of our nations favourite drinks (tea) so it was only natural to develop a range of mugs, which celebrate “Geordiness”. These act as a perfect gift, as well as a great tourist purchase. Made from bone china and using screen-printed decals, these mugs are high quality, quirky and simply stunning, and cannot fail to make you smile.
