The two super star designers will be discussing Michael’s background, his career, how he founded graphic design studio Build, and talking about the studios output of work.

Michael C Place - Build
Build is a graphic design studio based in London, UK. Established in 2001 by Creative Director Michael C. Place, who learned his craft at Newcastle College. Build has forged an international reputation as a forward-thinking studio, with an exceptional eye for detail and a unique sense of style.
The studio is run by Michael and his wife and business partner Nicky, and is well-known for its passion for print, type and the craft of design. The studio produces a wide range of graphic work from illustration, brand identity, design and layout as well as art direction for print, websites and animation.
Build has shown its works in several exhibitions in the UK and abroad, most recently producing exclusive print artworks for display within The North Face stores in Japan.
Michael features in the 2007 film 'Helvetica- A Documentary Film', has spoken at numerous conferences worldwide, and has twice been a judge at the prestigious D&AD global awards.
Clients include Getty Images, Nike, Design Museum London, D&AD, Sony Computer Entertainment and Faber&Faber publishing, amongst a host of smaller independents.

Adrian Shaughnessy
Adrian Shaughnessy is a self-taught graphic designer based in London. He spent 15 years as creative director of Intro, the design studio he co-founded. Shaughnessy left Intro in 2004 to pursue an interest in writing, and to work as an independent design consultant. Today he runs ShaughnessyWorks, a consultancy combining design and editorial direction.
Shaughnessy has written and art directed numerous books on design including the Sampler series, a trio of books devoted to radical music graphics. His most recent publication is Cover Art By:, a survey of current music graphics.
In 2005, he published How to be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul. It has been published in numerous languages and has sold 60,000 copies. He is currently working on a follow up entitled A User’s Guide: an A-Z of Graphic Design.
He is editor of Varoom: The Journal of Illustration and Made Images, and writes regularly for Eye and Creative Review. He is a contributing writer to Design Observer, the most widely read design blog in the world. He has a monthly column in Design Week and is a contributor to avant-garde music magazine The Wire.
Shaughnessy has been interviewed on television and radio, and lectures extensively around the world. He hosts a radio show called Graphic Design on the Radio, on Resonance FM.
