British furniture designer/maker Michael Armstrong established Afid Design in 2005, providing a commission based service for bespoke hand-made furniture as well as developing products for manufacture. Located in Newcastle upon Tyne, Michael works with private clients, architects, interior designers, manufacturers and retailers.
Focusing on simple, innovative, functional forms, produced with quality materials, subtle detailing and fine finishes, Michael delivers considered, well-proportioned furniture that works equally well in domestic, public and corporate environments. His collection of modern designs are produced from quality materials, primarily FSC certified hardwood.
Whether working on a bespoke piece of furniture or developing a piece for larger production runs,
Michael’s creative, professional approach and close co-operation with clients and manufacturers

AB Desk / Dressing table: tipping a nostalgic nod to the traditional school desk, the desk
incorporates a hand cast concrete utility trough and a bit’s and bob’s ‘tray’. As well as function
and simplicity, the desk is hand-made to exacting standards and finished with Danish oil.
R Chair: a fusion of craft and considered design the chair has a Scandinavian feel due to the fine craftsmanship, solid hardwood finish and simple modernity.
Available in solid hardwood or upholstered Harris Tweed.
